  1. 1.   Description of the profile

 

System administrator for Infrastructure management (SAIM) is a system / database /

Web / cloud administrator. SAIM works closely with the Software Development and

Support Coordinator, the Quality Manager, Project Managers, and the Development

Team to ensure high availability and quality of IT infrastructures (in development and

production environments) and related services for delivering optimal work conditions.

 

  1. 2.   Responsibilities (immediate)

 

* Design, support, maintain, and evaluate IT networking systems;

* Install, configure, and maintain physical / virtual computer servers;

* Assure infrastructure integrity, security, and availability;

* Maintain developer services (e.g. VCS and Web), and applicative services (e.g.

portals) availability; performs other related duties as assigned;

* Monitor network servers, file systems access, database access, and be able to

analyse and troubleshoot log files to track the nature and resolution of problems;

* Commit to 24/7 business continuity service level provision as contractually agreed

upon;

* Install, configure and maintain PCs, networking equipment (switches, routers,

firewall, proxy, etc.) and network operating systems;

* Supervise infrastructure modification operated by external subcontractors;

* Assist with development and enhancement of relevant standards, procedures

(e.g. data backup procedure, archiving procedure) and guidelines;

* Assist with middle-ware and back-end development (in shell scripting, python,...);

* Plan and implement hardware/software maintenance and servers upgrade;

* Prepare and verify backups, security checks (e.g. anti-virus) according defined

policies; accordingly, establish and control system access and security levels;

* Undertake recovery actions in the event of system failure, security breaches, etc.;

* Allocate necessary resources to fulfill requests in an effective and timely manner;

* Manage Visualization Management systems (i.e. ESX / HX5 VMware vCloud

Director, Oracle Virtual Box, Amazon Web Services);

* Administer Relational Database Management Systems (e.g. PostgreSQL and

MySQL) with clustering/mirroring deployment;

* Maintain infrastructure and system documentation including hardware/software

applications, services, support logs and other related information.

 

 

  1. 3.   Responsibilities (progressively endorsed)

 

* Be available "on-call" for 24/7 SLA enforcement as contractually agreed upon

* Monitor and configure networks to optimize performance (e.g. Squid load

balancing, clustering) and resolve faults;

* Administer NoSQL Database Systems (e.g. MongoDB) with Sharding;

* Manage non-domestic IT infrastructures ranging from local and private networks

to very large communications networks (including clustered and Cloud-based

infrastructures);

* Be force of proposition for infrastructure design and software services

architecture.

 

  1. 4.   Qualifications

 

* Computing studies (2 years or more) with a technical major (Electronics or

Network or Computer Science) OR an equivalent experience;

* Two years system administration experience is a minimum;

* A good understanding of network operating systems, network equipment and

networking protocols is mandatory;

* Sound development skills (in PHP, C, and Shell script) are required;

* Operational knowledge of Amazon Web Services (including EC2, S3, accounts

and security management, and AWS API) are mandatory;

* Real ability to work in production environments, under the pressure of repetitive

deadlines (e.g. with 2-3 production deployments / week);

* Must be self-motivated, resourceful, detailed-oriented, organised and have high

degree of energy/drive; able to maintain flexibility in a fast paced, ever-changing,

deadline driven environment, while handling many tasks simultaneously;

* Strong service orientation with good communication skills for understanding

technical problems and clearly explaining solutions;

* Sound administrative/organizational skills;

* Effective time management and personal organization skills;

* Ability to think outside the box;

* Fluent in written and spoken English and French;

* Vendor/Systems Administration/System Engineer certification (e.g., CISCO,

Ubuntu, RedHat unix) is an advantage.
